The small city of Lorena, TX, is located south of Waco, just off Interstate 35 in McLennan County. As part of the Waco metropolitan area, Lorena is home to only about 1,700 people across 3.2 square miles of land.
The town was originally called “Aerl Station” for founder Daniel Aerl, but soon the name was changed in honor of Lorena Westbrook, the oldest daughter of one of the area’s first settlers. Lorena gained national attention in 1988 at the Democratic National Convention, when former Texas Governor Ann Richards read a letter in her keynote address from an unnamed Lorena mother. Small bodies of water surround Lorena, while McBrayer Park offers plenty of outdoor space to enjoy.
